Description of the route

The route begins at the main railway station in Teplice nad Metují. Follow the road towards the town centre and turn left at the Rybárna guesthouse. Cycle route no. 4036 then takes you on a long, steady climb to the hamlet of Skály. From here, you can continue on foot to the Čáp lookout tower or the viewpoint at the ruins of Skály rock castle, explore the nature trail around Černé jezírko, or stop off for refreshments at Bischofstein, a former bishop’s manor. Continue along the red hiking trail through the little village of Studnice to Jívka. From there, follow the road uphill to the former Bohumír Copper Mine, which is open to visitors. From there, take the minor road downhill to Jívka II, where you join route no. 4304. A scenic field track with lovely views takes you past the Chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and the distinctive sandstone reliefs of the Stárkov Stations of the Cross. Ride down to the Church of St Joseph and the traditional timbered rectory standing above the town square. Lined with historic buildings, the square forms part of Stárkov’s designated urban conservation area. Continue along route no. 4304 on a long, steady climb to the Solovický Dvůr junction, then turn right and follow route no. 4002 to the rocky Trpasličí rokle gorge and the Vysoký kámen viewpoint. Turn left off route no. 4002 and follow the field track to route no. 4003 in Česká Metuje. Continue along route no. 22 (the Sudeten Route), passing the Pískovcové sloupky Natural Monument and going through the villages of Dědov and Javor before returning to Teplice nad Metují.
