An easy ride along paved dirt roads and tracks that passes a number of old stone crosses, statues and other sacred monuments.
Police nad Metují – Slavný – Suchý Důl – Police nad Metují
Part of this laid-back biking route follows the historical pilgrimage route to the village of Wambierzyce in Poland, where tens of thousands of believers used to flock every year at the height of the Marian devotions. This tradition was suspended after the closure of the national borders in 1947 and began again in 2002.
The circular route starts at the convent Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Police nad Metují. From there, follow the white markers along route No. 4151 towards Suchý Důl. At the end of Na Babí, cross the bridge with the statue of St. John of Nepomuk over the Ledhujka stream, and a short way along Ledhujská, turn right. Continue up the gentle slope, which is lined with a number of statues and stone crosses with lavishly ornate pillars. The crosses are usually named after the landowners who had them put there. Go past the Bareš (1791) and Cihlář (1836) crosses until you reach the village of Slavný. From there, you can take the blue route No. 4001 to the viewpoint and the Nad Slavný signpost. After passing the Jansa cross, ride down the yellow-marked trail to Suchý Dol, from where you ride back to Police nad Metují along the green route path past the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes.
