Road circuit from Broumov through Martínkovice and Jetřichov

This nice leisurely circuit through the Broumov Basin and the foothills of the Broumov Walls, mostly along roads, takes you past a number of architectural and religious sights and with plenty of refreshments along the way.

Broumov - Martínkovice - (Božanov - Martínkovice) - Křinice/Amerika - Jetřichov - Hejtmánkovice - Broumov

Route description

From Mírové náměstí in Broumov, go down street Protifašistických bojovníků in the lower right corner of the square, past the Church of St. Wenceslas and down to the junction with the main road; there, turn right and go past the Church of the Holy Spirit to the junction by the hospital. Fifty metres along on the right stands the unique wooden Church of Our Lady. Continue straight on along the main road towards Bozanov. 

Outside the town you can see Szczeliniec (Table Mountains) straight ahead of you. To the right of it rises the ridge of the Broumov Walls with the Crown and the Great Heap, followed by a long saddle to the west, where the Třešňová and Zaječí gorges run between the walls. The ridge then continues to the right through Hvězda and ends at Honský Špičák. 

At the crossroads in Martínkovice, turn right and ride up to the crossroads at the top of the village, where you join the blue biking route No. 4001 (6.9 km). Follow it to the right past the last cottages as far as St. Anne’s Chapel at the edge of the woods (7.3 km) and continue along the forest trail to the Amerika pub at the upper end of Křinice (12.3 km). 

Head left along the red route No. 4000 into the forest and past St. Hubert’s Chapel (14.2 km) until you reach Pod Pasa (15.7 km) on the main road from Police nad Metují to Broumov. Go right along that for three hundred metres, turn left at the crossroads and ride to the village of Jetřichov, then turn right at the U Suchánků inn and continue through the village until you join the main road in its centre (18.8 km). 

Turn right there. As you pass through the village of Hejtmánkovice, you can see a number of interesting crosses and sculptures on both sides of the road. Straight after Hejtmánkovice is the town of Broumov, at the beginning of which you come to the junction with the main road (23.7 km), where you take a left over the bridge. Go straight on past the town hall and through the streets of the town back to the square in Broumov (24.7 km). 

You can extend the route by 6.5 km by heading from Martínkovice to Božanov and then from Horní Božanov along route No. 4004 at the foot of the Broumov Walls to Horní Martínkovice.
