From the Javoří Mountains to Machov

A more challenging scenic route through the wild scenery of the Javoří Mountains and the Broumov Walls with road crossings through the Broumov Basin and taking you past sine unique Baroque churches and other historical sights.

Hynčice - Uhlířské údolí - Heřmánkovice - Janovičky - lom Rožmitál - Vysoká skála - Šonov - Otovice – Božanov – Machovský kříž - Řeřišný - Machov 

Route description

Route No. 4002 - Javoří Mountains (36 km), blue trail markers 

The route leads from the village of Hynčice (you can get there by train) following mostly forest trails crossing quiet hillsides through the Javoří Mountains. On many shorter sections outside the forest above Heřmánkovice, near the Janovičky recreational resort, above Rožmitál and Šonov, you can enjoy some beautiful views of the Broumov Basin, the Broumov Walls and the Javoří Mountains. The Šonov - Otovice connecting road also offers some other wonderfully scenic vistas. Joins biking routes No. 4020 (in Otovice) and No. 4000 (in Božanov). The route follows quiet forest trails and tracks through the fields. There are numerous historical and natural monuments to be seen on or close by the route. You can see the Church of St. Margaret in Šonov, the Church of St. Barbara in Otovice and the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Božanov, all part of the important ‘Broumov group’ of churches. As far as natural sights go, it’s worth mentioning the important geological attractions of the Broumovsko National Geopark, such as the ignimbrites in the Uhlířský důl valley, Rožmitál quarry with its unique nature trail, the Vysoké skály rocks and Kamenec. 

Note: 

The route is easy where it runs through the Broumov Basin, elsewhere the difficulty is moderate, except for the ascent from the top end of Božanov to Machovský kříž, which is hard (some short sections cannot be ridden).
