A lovely bike ride, mostly on the road, with a number of refreshment stops, many typical examples of Broumov architecture, and a visit to a popular Polish recreational spot.
Božanov – Radków – Tłumaczów – Otovice – Martínkovice – Božanov
The trip starts in the middle of the village of Božanov, from where you should take biking route 4002 to Horní Božanov and then follow route 4004 down through the border settlement of Studená Voda to the Zalew Radkowski Reservoir. There, you can grab a drink and some light refreshments by the water and see the outdoor geological exhibition of the Radków Geopark. Take the access road as far as the main road and then hand a left onto biking route 4000 to Radków. Passing the central car park, you’ll come to the turn-off towards Tlumaczów, which you get to up a steep slope followed by a sharp descent on route No. 4020. After the bridge across the Stěnava River, turn left and follow the road or route No. 4020 to the border crossing in Otovice. You can choose the marked biking route No. 4020 or take the cycle path off the main road to get through the village of Otovice. At the Na Písku pub at the end of the village, turn left onto the road and cross the Baroque stone bridge to Martínkovice. You can take a short detour to the left to see the Church of St. George and St. Martin, one of the fine Baroque edifices that make up the ‘Broumov group’ of churches. In the centre of Martínkovice, turn off biking route No. 4303 onto route 4000 and follow the main road back to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Božanov. All along the way you can see the typical classical Broumov-type farmhouses with their distinctively coloured facades and ornate gables.
